What is fabric consumption?
fabric consumption is the quantity of fabric needed to produce a particular style of garment. Generally fabric consumption per dozen is measured. Then it is multiplied by the number of garment to be produced in order to find out the total cost of fabric.
Carton consumption, CBM and thread consumption is also measured.
Why fabric consumption determination is needed?
Finding out the fabric consumption is important. Because-
1. It is needed to determine garment costing.
2. It is needed to prepare fabric order sheet.
3. It is needed to estimate the cost of production.
This is the measurement chart that we shall be considering in order to find out fabric consumption of a polo shirt:
Here, the fabric quality is pique 220 GSM, 100% cotton ; the collar and cuff is (1*1) rib, 250 GSM
Consumption per dozen:
Body= [{(CB length+allowance)*(1/2 chest+allowance)*2*GSM*12}/100*100*1000]+15%
= [{(70+4)*(51+3)*2*220*12}/100*100*1000]+15%
= 2.4 kg/dozen
Sleeve = [{(sleeve length+allowance)*(sleeve width+allowance)*2*2*GSM*12}/100*100*1000]+15%
= [{(17.5+3)*(16.5+3)*2*2*220*12}/100*100*1000]+15%
= .485 kg/dozen
[here, Q2 = 19.5 cm and G1 = 2 cm. So, Sleeve length without rib = 17.5 cm]
Placket = [{(length+allowance)*(Width+allowance)*2*2*GSM*12}/100*100*1000]+15%
= [{(14+3)*(3+2)*2*2*220*12}/100*100*1000]+15%
= 0.102 kg/dozen

Collar = [{(length*width*GSM)/100*100*1000}*12]+20%
= [{(42*6.50*250)/100*100*1000}*12]+20%
= 0.098 kg/dozen
[ Collar length measurement : {(neck width*2)+neck drop}-1
= {(17*2)+9}-1
= 42 cm]
Cuff = [{(length*width*GSM)/100*100*1000}*12]+20%
= [{(15*2*2*2*250)/100*100*1000}*12]+20%
= 0.043 kg/dozen
here,
In this way, fabric consumption calculation of a polo shirt is done.
