Different sections in yarn manufacturing


Yarn manufacturing is a process of producing yarn from fiber. This is considered as the first step of apparel manufacturing.


There are several sections in yarn manufacturing. They are-

  1. Blow room.
  2. Carding
  3. Drawing
  4. Roving
  5. Ring
  6. Finishing


The inputs and outputs of these sections are described below:

1. Blow room section:

Input: Raw cotton

Output: Lap


2. Carding section:

Input: Lap

Output: Card sliver


In case of producing jute yarn 2 step carding is done. They are-


  • Breaker card:

Input: Softened jute

Output: Breaker card sliver


  • Finisher card:

Input: Breaker card sliver

Output: Finisher card sliver


3. Drawing section:

Drawing operation is done in 2 stages. They are-

  • 1st drawing machine:

Input: Card sliver

Output: 1st drawn sliver


  • 2nd drawing machine:

Input: 1st drawn sliver

Output: 2nd drawn sliver


Roving section:

Input: 2nd drawn sliver

Output: Roving


Ring section:

Input: Roving

Output: Yarn (cop)


Finishing section:

Input: Yarn (cop)

Output: Yarn (cone)
